19 May 2024, Pentecost Sunday
Today’s celebration falls exactly 50 days after Easter. It ends the Easter Season — tomorrow Ordinary Time begins again.
Pentecost is the fulfillment and conclusion of the Paschal Feast. The Holy Spirit — New Life in Christ — was the goal of all Christ’s activity. As promised, after Christ was lifted up on the cross, when access to the Father was opened and God’s childhood became a reality, the Spirit of the Father and the Son was sent to continue the work of Jesus.
Church holidays and memories of saints this week:
- Monday, 20 May, FEAST OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, MOTHER OF THE CHURCH.
- Tuesday, 21 May, optional memorial of the Holy Martyrs Christopher Magallanes, Priest, and Companions.
- Wednesday, May 22, optional memorial of St. Rita of Cascia, nun.
- Friday, May 24, obligatory memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary Help of Christians..
- Saturday, May 25, optional memorial of St. Bede the Venerable, priest and doctor of the Church.
- Next Sunday we celebrate THE SOLEMNITY OF THE HOLY TRINITY in the Church. The belief in one God in three Persons is the most specific element of Christianity. No other religion offers this mystery for belief. The existence of the Holy Trinity is a dogma of our faith. We could not reach this truth with human reason alone. Jesus Christ revealed this to us.
- Throughout the month, before the Holy Mass, we will pray the Litany of Loreto, asking Our Lady for protection and intercession for us, our families and loved ones. We will start the litany 10 minutes before the Holy Mass.
- We invite everyone who needs prayer and God’s support to the daily Holy Mass celebrated in our chapel at 6:00 p.m. Sunday Mass is at 4 p.m.
