12 May 2024, The Ascension of the Lord
The Ascension is the day of the royal enthronement of Christ, the triumph that God the Father is preparing for his Son. The Ascension into heaven is not only the final and solemn exaltation of Jesus, but also a pledge and guarantee of the exaltation and glorification of human nature. Christian faith and hope are strengthened and confirmed today. We are invited not only to reflect on our own littleness, weakness and poverty, but also on this transformation more wonderful than the work of creation. The «transformation» that Christ brings about in us when we are united with Him through grace and the sacraments.
It is worth emphasizing that the Lord Jesus did not ascend to heaven alone, but took with him all the souls of the saints from limbo.
We celebrate the «ascension», because Christ ascended into heaven by his own power. Christ will take His Mother, and one day also us, to heaven. Hence we speak of the „assumption».
